The Burgundy vineyard (in French, Vignoble de Bourgogne) is a French wine region that extends through the homonymous region, in eastern France, north of the Rhone Valley. The Burgundian vineyard stretches for 250 kilometers from the north of Chablis to the south of the Mâcon region.
Its wines, along with Bordeaux and champagne, are among the most prestigious in France and in the world, with five appellations d'origines contrôlées (AOC): 33 appellations grands crus, 562 appellations premiers crus, 44 appellations municipal or villages and 23 regional and semi-regional denominations. Burgundy produces red wines, based on pinot noir and gamay grapes, and white wines, based on chardonnay and aligoté strains. Small amounts of rose wine and sparkling wine are also produced. On about 25,800 hectares, they produce an average of 1,500,000 hectoliters of wine.
