Ribera del Duero is a designation of origin to which vineyards located in Castilla y León (Spain), within a strip of the Duero river basin, about 115 kilometers long and 35 wide, located at the confluence of the provinces of Soria (19 municipalities), Burgos (60), Segovia (4) and Valladolid (19) .4 It begins approximately in the east in San Esteban de Gormaz and extends to Quintanilla de Onésimo in the west. At the end of 2005, crops in the area constituted approximately 2% of the entire area devoted to vine cultivation in Spain.
As of December 31, 2017, it comprises a registered vineyard area of 23,353 ha5 consisting of 8,220 active winegrowers5 and 288 wineries6. In 2018, the harvest began on September 19 and reached 125,438,801 kilos of grapes harvested7.
